What is the meaning of the festival name 'Svarog’s Wheel'?

A bit about our place and what lies behind the name Svarog's Wheel!

Long before written history, the ancient Slavs looked to the sky and saw the eternal cycle of the Sun—a great celestial wheel turning through the heavens. They believed this sacred order was shaped by Svarog, the Heavenly Blacksmith, the divine craftsman who forged the Sun, the stars, and the harmony between Earth and Sky.

A blacksmith transforms raw metal into something that carries both strength and soul. In the same way, every handpan begins its life in fire and beneath the hammer, patiently forged into an instrument capable of touching the human spirit.

This connection is especially meaningful in Žrnovnica. Beneath Perun Hill, named after Perun, Svarog's mighty son and the god of thunder, where our handpan festival is being held. The sound of steel echoes through the valley, just as, according to legend, Perun's thunder once echoed across these mountains.

The festival is called Svarog's Wheel because it celebrates the eternal cycle of creation. The wheel symbolizes the Sun, the rhythm of nature, the changing seasons, music, community, and the journey that brings people together from all over the world.

Just as Svarog forged the heavens similarly artisans forge handpan so we gather to forge something invisible but equally lasting: connection, inspiration and shared moments through music, nature and community.

Svarog's Wheel is more than a festival. It is where ancient legend, living craftsmanship, and the universal language of music become one.

What is the best way to travel from Split to the festival site?

There are a few options! If you have a car you can easily travel from Split with no more than a 15 minute drive to the festival site. Alternatively, you can use public transport and take 'line 27' which leaves to the festival site almost every hour!

Are all workshops included in the price paid for entry into the festival?

Great question! Most workshops are donation-based. A few specialized workshops will be offered at a special promotional festival price.
